o last week was "banned books week". this is the list from last year. i've read 2,3,4,5 and 6, and i definitely plan on reading the others, maybe not #1, i'm not sure yet on that one.

"1.Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling, for its focus on wizardry and magic."
can you believe that? banned for being creative in it's topic...and b/c it uses the idea of magic! what do you think that the fairy tales are about, with the wicked witch/queen making the girl fall asleep (snow white)? isn't that magic?
"2. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, for using offensive language and being unsuited to age group."
"3. The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier
(the "Most Challenged" fiction book of 1998), for using offensive language and being unsuited to age group."
4. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
, for sexual content, racism, offensive language, violence and being unsuited to age group."
so it's better to ignore that racism occured than to have children read about it? it's better to leave them in ignorance, b/c...b/c...ignorance is bliss?
"5. Summer of My German Soldier by Bette Greene, for racism, offensive language and being sexually explicit."
"6. Th Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, for offensive language and being unsuited to age group. "
"7. Alice series by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, for being sexually explicit, using offensive language and being unsuited to age group."
"8. Go Ask Alice by Anonymous, for being sexually explicit, for offensive language and drug use."
"9. Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers, for offensive language and being unsuited to age group."
"10. Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause, for being sexually explicit and unsuited to age group."

how can books be banned for sexual content, when soap operas consist of only that? how can books be banned for language, when offensive language is used everywhere, on the streets, on the radio, on tv, in movies, on the internet? the people that ban books are definitely living in a different century, a time when everyone was pure of thoughts, incapable of speaking offensively and of any type of misbehavior, including drug use. when there was a little chance of meeting anyone outside the family so racism is not an issue. when society got married and then had sex and even that sex is pure, only meant to bear children.
did that time ever exist?

i forgot to sum up the w/e yesterday, so here goes:

friday-dinner with parents, and my younger brother brought home the girl he had been dating for the last 3 or 4 weeks. not sure if their relationship will last though, he actually doesn't think it will, for they have alot of issues to deal with. i think that he should not have brought her over to meet the parents until they resolved their issues and decided on whether they will stay together or not, but...

saturday-went out with sophia and sue and a bunch of other women. it was for sue's birthday. it was really fun actually. and sophia and i have decided that we think that the ladies are great! they are all over 35 and look hot and are smart and funny and succesful...and single. and although they are over 35, they are very much loved by the younger men for their youthful outlook on life.

sunday-hubs and i (and his brother chris and his wife) went to see the "mr.show". it was wonderfully funny, i laughed the whole time. we were on the 2nd row...my goodness i could see these guys sweat even! i wish that i could have seen every concert and show that close...i bet robin wished he saw paul mccartney from the second row.
