as i was walking with emily yesterday (at work), i noticed that the blood drive was happening today...and i mentioned that i didn't think that i could give blood any more, being a diabetic.

anyway, she suggested that i ask just to make sure, and i did. apparently, no, they do not want the blood of a diabetic, if they are uncontrolled, but controlled diabetics are definitely welcome. i asked why they didn't want uncontrolled diabetics to give blood, and they said that the amount of blood taken away would definitely be too much for the diabetics themselves but also that they just cannot use the blood to give to others.

of course i am controlled now, but i did end up not giving blood yesterday b/c i knew that i hadn't eaten enough that afternoon. maybe i will give blood today.

i started reading mistress of spices by chitra banerjee divakaruni. i like it so far, it definitely is different than anything i have ever heard. it is fantasy, or magic realism, while also filled with social commentary, while also having a story to tell. And the wonderful spices, the spices that are used in indian cooking...each holding a special power, what an amazing idea.
