went to chicago over the weekend.
things i learned or did on the trip:
-i am learning to slow my pace more. formerly i would be in a rush to get to places and then get extremely annoyed/frustrated with folks who run differently (on a much slower pace).
on the other hand, i didn't anything at all that i wanted to do...only what was accomodating to other people. but there is always next time.
-i went without hubs (since he works w/e). i missed him alot actually.
-i went to an indian clothing store. there was an older couple that worked there. north indian couple. anyway, the wife called her husband 'honey'. this blew me away. not only that, but they were teasing each other and each showed how much they loved each other in little ways. (they apprently have been married for a long time and have grandchildren).

then i went to another indian store where two of the customers were young and south indian. the wife called her husband 'ahndi'. ahndi is a term of respect, used to replace the person's first name. in south india, women generally do not use their husband's name at all, and only this term to address their husbands, while the husbands of course would use the wife's name.

i definitely abhor some of the society's rules in the south, and have to admire the north for it's ability to change with the times. on the other hand...i am from the south, and have seen a little of it and i find it very beautiful.

of course, my mom has never called my dad by his name, and has only used the term 'ahndi'...
