i can't believe that this is happening in 2003. A biracial couple have been targeted for hate crimes (per the couple). Their house was shot at, comments were made by neighbors, and now a fire has burnt their house down...the couple are pointing at the racism of some of their neighbors.

I am hoping that this is a 'small-town' problem and that this is very out of the ordinary. being a part of a biracial couple myself, this stuff is scary to hear.

valentine's day is coming up. i am not sure of what i feel about this holiday. over the years i had always found it disappointing...i either broke up with someone around this time, or there was so much pressure that it wore us out.

what present to get, what present is good enough, how much are they spending for i should spend about that much, what does it mean if the present is not expensive...can love be put to value through a present given? do i think that someone loves me more if i get roses on this day? i don't actually. get me roses on march 14 or april 14 or...and you will say you love me more than the guy who gets it on a day that has been designated for it.

i do remember that one of my favorite presents from this day was a sculpture that he had made (a former boyfriend) as well a dinner that he cooked...i didn't value it right away when i was comparing to the diamonds and other presents that my friends got...but after when i realized that he spent so much of his time in making it, and that he had done it lovingly, and that he truly did not have any money to spend. anyway, i think that valentine's day should not be about money spent, but more about knowing that someone loves you beyond Valentine's day.

(but if robin wanted to get me diamonds, i will not complain :))
