apparently i left a bag of oats opened on the top cupboard of my kitchen. the result? about 70 or so flying type of bugs.
we noticed this when at our holiday party there were a couple of these flying things. last night, we decided to search where they were coming from and found a few more in the kitchen. then when we emptied the cabinet of the boxes and cans...we found more...when finally we got to the top of the cupboard, we had already (okay robin had already!) killed about 10 or 12...and then there it was a bag of oats, and inside were the 50 or so just squirming around. since it was my bag and since robin had already killed about 20, i decided that i would take care of the bag. i put on gloves, and a plastic bag. i squirmed, robin squirmed, i screached, and then finally i grabbed the oats bag and put it into the plastic bag...and then screamed really hard and ran outside with it to throw the bag out into the garbage can.
we thought that was it. but when i woke up this morning there were 3 more. we will have to take care of those and any other remaining ones tonight.
moral: do not leave an open bag of any type of food, for bugs and insects and ugly flying things will suddenly appear, magically, increasing in numbers from nowhere. (okay i know that god made everything and it is all beautiful, blah, blah...but bugs and insects are still ugly and frightening!!)
